Detailed itinerary
Day 1: Welcome, Namaste at KathmanduIt is a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. A representative from our office will meet you at the airport and escort you to your hotel.
Day 2: Day trek at Shivapuri National Park near Kathmandu
As a certified medical masseur and physiotherapist, Eric Lon is aware of the importance of the body warm up at the beginning of any Himalayan trek. No other Nepalese trekking agency than us is offering such muscle clean up with yoga and trekking at Shivapuri national Park.
This park is located at the north of Kathmandu valley. His top, 2720 meters above sea level, offers a wonderful panorama of the snow capped Langtang range. His greenish forest protects many species of plants and animals, and it gives birth to several crystal clear rivers. When you are looking at the Bagmati river' spring, you cannot believe it will be changed in a black drain crossing Kathmandu.
Trekking at Shivapuri National Park is like taking a Jouvence bath for rejuvenating your cells. In function of your fitness Eric Lon will choose the most suitable trek at Shivapuri.
During this trek Eric Lon will start teaching you some Himalayan yoga techniques in order to activate your acclimatizing.
It will start early morning. By evening you will be back to your hotel, at Kathmandu.
The next day you will travel to your main trekking destination.
Day 3: Sightseeing in Kathmandu Valley
Kathmandu is the historical and cultural heart of Nepal and has been a popular destination for tourists ever since Nepal opened its doors to visitors. The city presents a wonderful mix of Hinduism, Tibetan Buddhism and Western influence in the Valley. Patan and Bhaktapur, its two major neighboring cities bear immense historical, cultural and religious significances. There will be a half day guided tour to the famous and biggest Hindu shrine of Pashupatinath, the largest Buddhist stupa in Nepal Boudhanath, the 15th century Palace of 55 windows and Swoyambhunath.
Day 4: Drive from Kathmandu to Syabru Besi
From Kathmandu, we take a 6 to 7 hours drive to Syabru Besi. After driving for 30 kms, we approach pristine villages on the banks of the river Trishuli. We also get to view the enchanting panorama of the Himalaya, including the Annapurnas, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal and the peaks of the Langtang region.
Day 05: Easy trek to Gatlang
Our first trekking day starts early morning with a hike to Gatland which is located west of Syabru besi at an altitude of 2200 meters high. This village hosts traditional Buddhist festival. The serenity and calmness of the place is inspiring. It seems to be within Middle Age.
Day 06: Trek to Tatopani hot springs: 2000 meters.
Today, we go up to Tatopani where a "hot spring" awaits for us. We are heading north and climb gentle hills to reach our destination crossing small hamlets far from the road.
Day 07: Trek to Thuman.
In order to reach Thuman, we go over the hill which separates us to the next valley. This is a great hike through dense forest and small settlements. The views from Brimdang are fantastic and give us our first glimpse of the Langtang mountains range.
Day 08: Trek to Briddim: 2000 meters.
We are now in the heart of the Tamang heritage trail and we cross the valley to go on its opposite flank to Briddim. This small village is an amazing place to relax and meet with friendly Tamang people. The local Buddhist monks are used to get married.
Day 09: Rest at Briddim: 2000 meters.
We indulge ourselves in a rest day and participate in a Puja with a local Lama. This immerses us in a completely different world. Short hikes are also possible from Briddim.
Day 10: Trek to Rimche.
It is a long day hike to Rimche which leads to the beginning of the Langtang valley. The trail is quite easy but the distance is longer than the previous days. We go through a narrow valley to the east until we reach Rimche by following the Langtang River.
Day 11: Trek to Langtang village: 3500 meters.
From the settelment of Lama hotel, we continue the ascent above the Langtang Khola. As the trail progresses, it becomes steeper. We have the most exotic sights of Langtang Lirung lying in the sky at 7246 meters. The trail leads to a log bridge and on climbing further we come across lush meadows of Ghora Tabela at 3000m. We will see several lodges and a police check post. Further on, the route opens up into a wide valley of yak pastures and scattered Tamang villages with water-driven mills and prayer wheels. We arrive at Langtang village after crossing a stream and reaching up a height of 3500 meters. Langtang village is the headquarters for Langtang National Park and has flat-roofed Tibetan style houses, hotels and cultivated lands yielding buckwheat, potatoes, wheat, turnips, barley etc.
Day 12: Trek to Kyangjin Gonpa: 3800 meters.
The trail skirts gradually through rich yak pastures and interesting traditional villages of Muna to Singdun. We cross a wooden cantilever bridge and reach a wide valley after climbing a moraine. Finally, on ascending the mountain passes, we arrive at Kyagjin Gompa. There is a small monastery and a government-operated cheese factory. Each traditional house has been adapted to be a guest house. Tourism is an important part of the local industry.
Day 13: Exploration around Kyangjin Gonpa.
We take a day off for acclimatization and a proper rest. We get to explore interesting places like the monastery, cheese factory etc. We can climb Kyangjin Ri located at 4350 meters from where amazing views of snow-capped mountains are spreading right next to you. We can walk up the moraine to see the spectacular mountain ridges and undulating glaciers. Doing yoga there is great. Look at the Eric Lon photo stream : www.yogatrekking.com
Day 14: Trek to Langtang village: 3500 meters.
Today, we head back down to Langtang Village. This is a very short hike and this allows us to enjoy our last day in this vast valley surrounded by amazing peaks.
Day 15: Trek to Lama Hotel: 2784 meters.
From Kyangjin Gonpa we take the route back to Lama Hotel. As we retrace our steps, we follow the Langtang Khola to Langtang village and on to Ghora Tabela. We stop briefly for lunch and thereafter continue the steep descent to Lama Hotel.
Day 16: Syabru Bensi: 1400 meters.
From Lama Hotel, we head back to Syabru Besi. We can wander around the undulating path leading to the village. This gives us an opportunity to get an insight of the culture and custom of the Tamang community. We can also simply relax in the sun savoring the beauty of the majestic Himalayan Mountains. It is possible to walk down faster: Eric Lon came from Kyangjin Gonpa to the main road within a day, but it is not possible to enjoy the surroundings at high speed.
If you are a group of experienced trekkers we can organizs a trip especially for you to visit the highest lakes of Langtang. The trail is steeper but the panoramas are great.
Day 17: Drive back to Kathmandu
We conclude our trip with a drive of 6 to 7 hours back to Kathmandu. If you are interested, we may visit en route the Osho meditation center. It is nested in the greenish.
Day 18: Depart from Kathmandu: Namaste, see you again...
Our Nepalese support team will take you to the airport for your flight home. On the other hand, if you prefer to stay longer in Nepal, you can go for short tours such as game drive at National parks, rafting, Tibet tours, mountain biking, etc... contact us.
