Sand ski in Ladakh
For thirty years Eric Lon' main hobbie is skiing, not only on snow but also on the rocks of different sizes. His favorite ski spot is the sand dunes.
- In the eighties Eric has created several cross country ski club on the dunes of Algeria and in Tunisia.
- In the nineties Eric has taught dune ski to the rangers of the Namib Naukluft Park, in Namibia, as well as to Michelle Mc Lean, Miss Namibia and Miss Universe.
For twenty years Eric is used to ski on the small dunes of Rajasthan, India.
You can contact us if you want to combine a winter camel safari with trekking, sand skiing and doing yoga in Rajasthan.
During summer 2009 Eric spent two months in Ladakh to introduce his concept of "yogatrekking".
Eric has also located different spots suitable for sand ski.
Around Leh, behind Shey monastery there are small slopes of thin sand which are ideal for the beginners. Two kilometers inland there are huge slopes but covered with small stones. They should be cleaned before to create the first sand ski school of India.
The Authorities of Jammu and Kashmir are studying a project of ski lift on these slopes.
We are prosing sand ski demonstration at Shey, and then a nice walk on the biggest sand slopes, where wild antilopes are living. This is part of a day trek.
About 100 km north from Leh there are small river dunes in the touristic Nubra valley.
There are two spots. One spot has some vegetation: it is used for camel riding. Indians and foreigners enjoy this activity.
On the other side of a small river there are small dunes without any vegetation. It is a perfect spot for cross country skiing.
Please, have a look to the photos of Eric Lon, set: "Explore Leh Ladakh", on: www.flickr.com and contact us to plan your next sand ski holidays. Please, bring your old skis to create the first sand ski club at Leh Ladak.
